James and Sarah were married on 7th June 1865 in Kilmore Parish Church, Co. Armagh. On the civil marriage certificate, James is described as a bachelor, farmer of Grange Oneiland and Sarah as a spinster of Fernagreeva, Parish Loughgall. Both the groom's and the bride's fathers (James Newport and George Curran) are described as farmers. The witnesses were John Curran and John Duke. This was a marriage involving first cousins. The mother of the groom and father of the bride were brother and sister.

The family emigrated to Australia sortly after their marriage.
